In the 1930's Richard Morszeck developed the grooved suitcase which we now know as Rimowa. The clear, clean design with the parallel folds of the aluminum structure made the travel case manufacturer from Cologne famous worldwide. His inspiration came from the famous Junkers JU52 airplane which used ridges in its fuselage to add strength to its structure. Today each Topas is manufactured from hundreds of precision made parts and individually tested to meet the highest standards. They are designed for years of travel.
A strong lock is your suitcase’s security system. To protect against damage, the sturdy lever bolt locks are recessed into the suitcase frame. The lock casing is made of hard metal and is practically indestructible. The automatic opening mechanism can be activated only with your personal combination. So that every owner can cross borders problem-free, Rimowa has adapted its locks accordingly. Its products are equipped with TSA (Transportation Security Administration) locks. They can be opened by USA customs officials. The Rimowa luggage collection comes equipped with its own chassis. The multiwheel system with extra-large directional rollers makes moving this case simple, by either gliding on two rollers or upright in a “4-wheel drive” style. Rimowa does’t just comply with the prescribed IATA standards for airline luggage, it also makes getting it to the plane really easy, with the retractable telescoping handle. When not needed, it disappears discreetly into the casing. And you have everything within reach on board. The interior dividers can be adjusted to any size load and keep your clothes safe and secure.

Rimowa suitcases have been manufactured ever since the last century. Rimowa's long tradition started in Cologne in 1898 as manufacturers of luggage under the corporate name of Kofferfabrik Paul Morszeck. Did the latter realized that his idea of a perfect suitcase would become a best-seller worldwide. Today, one hundred years later, the luggage with the grooves is at home all over the world. Internationally, they are considered a symbol for the best in German quality.
Richard Morszeck, the founder's son, was inspired by an unusual material. In 1937 he launched the first overseas trunk of aluminum on the market. In 1950 there followed the first suitcase made of aircraft aluminum with the typical Rimowa grooved structure that is today the unmistakable sign of Rimowa the world over. The advantage of this design: minimal weight with a maximum of stability. Air traveler soon came to prefer the aluminum suitcases from Rimowa since they are conveniently light and can withstand extreme weather conditions without being damaged.
